Florida Christian School recently issued the following announcement.
Congratulations to our Patriot Scholar and FCS lifer, Joseph Fernandez-Andes ’21, for being selected as a National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist. Over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
As a semifinalist, Joseph Fernandez-Andes represents less than one percent of all high school seniors in the U.S., including the highest-scoring entrants in each state. He also represents FCS, making us the only local Christian school to receive such an honor. Joseph is continuing the competition to be eligible for one of 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered in the Spring of 2021.
“Joseph embodies the achievement that is possible when hard work is combined with the academic opportunities afforded to him. He has also accomplished our school’s mission of developing well-rounded students who are not only successful academically, but those who use their God-given talents and abilities to enhance our school community. As an accomplished musician, Joseph is an integral part of our Symphonic and Jazz bands. We are very proud of Joseph and his accomplishments and look forward to watching him continue to impact our world for Christ. We know God has big plans for his future! – David King, High School Principal
