Fisher Island Day School recently issued the following announcement.
On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, our entire student body will experience the democratic process—first-hand—via FIDS’s mock presidential election. Each student will have the opportunity to cast his/her vote for president on Election Day. Barring any recounts or hanging chads, the votes will tabulated and the winner announced prior to the close of the school day. Thanks go to Mr. Trevor Leafe, Social Studies Teacher/Athletic Director, and our middle school students for hosting FIDS’s mock presidential election.
Following are suggested guidelines for encouraging civility as the Presidential Election nears:
1. Fisher Island Day School is a candidate-neutral institution.
2. It is the responsibility of the school to teach about our democratic system of elections and to teach our students
how to discourse positively.
3. While this is an emotionally charged election, faculty, staff, and parents all have the responsibility to role-model
for our children how to discourse positively.
4. Parents are strongly encouraged to share their values with their children and for whom they are voting and why.
