WASHINGTON, D.C. - In a hearing entitled "Voices for the Victims: The Heartbreaking Reality of the Mayorkas Border Crisis," Congressman Carlos A. Giménez (FL-28) questioned witnesses regarding the consequences of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' handling of the border crisis. The hearing, held as part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary's second impeachment proceedings, aimed to shed light on the human cost of Mayorkas' actions.
Witnesses who have been directly impacted by Mayorkas' refusal to enforce border laws testified during the hearing. The Homeland Security Committee conducted a comprehensive investigation into Mayorkas' failed leadership and the resulting national security and humanitarian crisis at the southern border. Interim reports have highlighted Mayorkas' dereliction of duty, the unprecedented control of cartels over the Southwest border, the human and financial costs of the crisis, as well as the waste and abuse of taxpayer dollars.
"The consequences of Secretary Mayorkas' refusal to enforce our laws at the southern border are immeasurable," stated Rep. Gimenez during the hearing. He highlighted the dangers posed to border patrol agents, the devastating loss of lives due to deadly fentanyl, and the harm inflicted on both Americans and migrants by vicious criminals and cartel members. Rep. Gimenez stressed the need for accountability, stating that House Republicans would not back down. The Homeland Security Committee has taken on the solemn duty of considering the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas for his reckless actions and their consequences.
The witnesses who testified during the hearing included Tammy Nobles and Josephine Dunn, both private citizens, as well as Deborah Pearlstein, the Director of the Program in Law and Public Policy and Charles and Marie Robertson Visiting Professor in Law and Public Affairs at Princeton University.
Congressman Carlos Gimenez, representing Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, is the only Cuban-born member of the 118th Congress. Having fled his homeland after the Communist takeover, he serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Select Committee on China.
