Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson met with Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-28) and Cuban opposition leader Rosa María Payá ahead of the State of the Union address. Rosa María is known for her tireless fight against the Communist Cuban regime.
“Honored to introduce Speaker of the House Mike Johnson to my honored guest Rosa María Payá,” said Rep. Gimenez. “Like Rosa María, Speaker Johnson is a staunch defender of freedom and a fighter against the far-left, socialist policies that are destroying America. It is an honor to serve with him and introduce him to a champion for freedom like Rosa María Payá.”
Congressman Carlos Giménez, the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress, shared his pride in representing Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys. He fled his homeland after the Communist takeover and has a background as a firefighter paramedic, former Fire Chief of the City of Miami, and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Giménez currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Select Committee on China.
