Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez, during an Armed Services Hearing in Washington, D.C., highlighted the issue of fentanyl poisoning in American communities, attributing it to the use of Chinese precursor chemicals by transnational Mexican cartels. According to Gimenez, "Fentanyl overdoses are the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45." He emphasized that the poison is being manufactured in Mexico with chemicals supplied by China and smuggled into the U.S. through open borders. Gimenez called on the Administration to take action against fentanyl trafficking and hold Mexico and China accountable.
Gimenez, who represents Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, has a personal understanding of communist regimes, having fled Cuba after the Communist takeover. He is the first career firefighter paramedic elected to the House of Representatives and has previously served as the Fire Chief of the City of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Currently, he serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Select Committee on China.
The hearing, where Gimenez raised these concerns, was live-streamed on YouTube and the Committee's website, allowing the public to witness his line of questioning on the pressing issue of fentanyl poisoning in the United States.
