Rep. Carlos Gimenez, along with other Cuban representatives, Nicole Malliotakis, Maria Elvira Salazar, and Mario Diaz-Balart, held a press conference in Washington, D.C. to condemn far-left socialist Members of Congress for their clandestine trips to Communist Cuba. During the conference, Rep. Gimenez expressed his disapproval, stating, “It is reprehensible for U.S. Members of Congress to appease and lobby for a brutal dictatorship that oppresses its people, tramples on human rights, and violently squashes political opponents. Communist Cuba poses a direct threat to U.S. national security and will stop at nothing in its pathetic efforts to undermine the free world.”
Rep. Carlos Gimenez, the only Cuban-born member of the 118th Congress, shared his personal history of fleeing his homeland following the Communist regime's takeover. He highlighted his background as a career firefighter paramedic and former Fire Chief of the City of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Rep. Gimenez currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Select Committee on China.
