Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Carlos Gimenez (FL-28) condemned Russia for collaborating with Cuba to deploy warships capable of utilizing hypersonic missiles in the Western Hemisphere. He criticized President Joe Biden's policy towards Cuba, asserting that it has emboldened the Castro regime to pose a greater threat to U.S. national security.

“Make no mistake, the murderous military regime in Havana poses a direct national security threat to America,” Rep. Gimenez said. “Our community understands this firsthand being only 90 miles away from the shores of the very same dictatorship that supports Putin’s barbaric, illegal invasion of Ukraine. Instead of granting concession after concession to the Castro regime in Cuba, which is actively inviting Russian warships to our seas, President Biden must impose consequences on Communist Cuba to curb this pathetic, dangerous behavior.”

In a meeting with House Republicans, former President Trump also mentioned how unacceptable and dangerous this unprecedented incursion is.

Rep. Gimenez's video statement can be viewed online.

Congressman Carlos Giménez is the only Cuban-born Member of Congress, having fled the island with his family shortly after the communist takeover. He represents Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, home to the largest Cuban exile community in America. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security and is a member of both the Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on China.
