On August 2, 2024, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez introduced a resolution condemning the elections held on July 28, 2024, in Venezuela as fraudulent. The resolution advocates for the reinstatement of stringent sanctions against the Maduro regime and recognizes Edmundo Gonzalez as the new President-Elect of Venezuela.

Congressman Carlos Giménez represents Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys. He is noted for being the only Cuban-born member of the 118th Congress, having left Cuba shortly after the Communist takeover. Giménez is also recognized as the first career firefighter paramedic elected to the House of Representatives and has previously served as Fire Chief of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. He currently chairs the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security and serves on both the Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
