Today, Congressman Carlos Gimenez, along with Representatives Mark Green (R-TN), Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL), and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), introduced a bipartisan resolution denouncing Communist Cuba's human trafficking, forced labor, and profiteering of Cuban medics around the world.
"The murderous regime in Havana is the largest, most cynical perpetrator of human trafficking in our hemisphere," said Rep. Carlos Gimenez. "Cuban doctors are trafficked like modern-day slaves, their wages are garnished and they are exploited in the most inhumane conditions imaginable. As the only Cuban-born Member of Congress, I am proud to join my colleagues in introducing this legislation to hold the Castro regime and its international accomplices accountable."
Congressman Carlos Giménez represents Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys. He is the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress, having fled his homeland shortly after the Communist takeover of the island. He is also noted as the first career firefighter paramedic elected to the House of Representatives and served as the former Fire Chief of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, as well as being a member of both the Armed Services Committee and Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
