Miami, FL - Congressman Carlos Gimenez extended his congratulations to U.S. Senator Marco Rubio following Rubio's nomination for Secretary of State in the forthcoming Trump Administration. Senator Rubio, who has a long-standing career in public service within Florida, is set to assume the role of the nation's top diplomat.

"President Trump has made a truly historic and brilliant choice in selecting Senator Marco Rubio as our nation’s Secretary of State," stated Congressman Carlos Giménez. "Senator Rubio is America’s statesman, a proven expert in international affairs, and an unequivocal champion for freedom, democracy, and global Human Rights. As a fellow Floridian, Miamian, and Cuban American I am beyond proud of Senator Rubio and his accomplishments. Senator Rubio will be the highest-ranking Hispanic leader in U.S. history, and I know our nation, our region, and the world will be safer, more secure, and freer under his leadership."

Rubio's political journey began as a commissioner in West Miami before advancing to Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and then serving as U.S. Senator from Florida. His nomination marks another milestone as he becomes one of the highest-ranking Hispanic leaders.

Congressman Gimenez himself has a notable background as the only Cuban-born member of the 118th Congress. He left Cuba after its Communist takeover and later served as Fire Chief for Miami before becoming Mayor of Miami-Dade County. In Congress, he represents Miami-Dade County along with the Florida Keys while chairing several committees related to homeland security and armed services.
