Miami, FL - Congressman Carlos Gimenez extended his congratulations to U.S. Senator Marco Rubio on his nomination for Secretary of State under the incoming Trump Administration. Senator Rubio, a Miami native, has held various leadership roles including commissioner in West Miami, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and Republican presidential candidate.
Gimenez also acknowledged Governor Mike Huckabee's nomination as Ambassador to Israel. "Congratulations to Governor Mike Huckabee on his nomination to be Ambassador to our dearest friend and ally the democratic Jewish State of Israel," stated Congressman Gimenez. He further expressed admiration for Huckabee's dedication to public service and support for Israel, noting the strong relationship between President Trump and Governor Huckabee with Israel.
Congressman Carlos Gimenez is noted for being the only Cuban-born member of the 118th Congress. He fled Cuba after the Communist takeover and later became a career firefighter paramedic before serving as Fire Chief of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Representing Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, he chairs several committees including Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, Armed Services Committee, and Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
