Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez has introduced three legislative measures targeting the influence of Communist China, focusing on national security concerns. The bills aim to reduce U.S. dependency on Chinese-manufactured goods and enhance domestic production capabilities.
One of the proposed bills is the Keep China Out of Solar Energy Act, which seeks to ban the purchase of solar panels produced or assembled in China. Additionally, it mandates that the Director of the Office of Management and Budget report to Congress on the status of solar panel manufacturing within the United States. Senator Rick Scott is sponsoring a similar bill in the Senate.
Gimenez also reintroduced the Decoupling from Foreign Adversarial Battery Dependence Act, initially passed with bipartisan support in the 118th Congress. The bill has backing from Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green and Select Committee on CCP Chairman John Moolenaar, among others. Again, Senator Scott supports a corresponding Senate version.
Another piece of legislation reintroduced by Gimenez is the Port Crane Security and Inspection Act, co-led by Representative John Garamendi with several original co-sponsors including Representatives Kiggans, Luna, Donalds, Higgins, and Green.
"Communist China is at America’s 20-yard line," stated Congressman Carlos Gimenez. "This legislation will wean the U.S. off our over-reliance on strategic products manufactured in Communist China."
Gimenez has been active in addressing Chinese Communist Party influences as part of his role on various committees including House Homeland Security and Armed Services Committees.
Carlos Giménez represents Miami-Dade County and parts of Florida Keys in Congress. He is noted for being the only Cuban-born member of this Congress session and holds positions such as Vice-Chairman of the Republican Governance Group and Chairman of relevant subcommittees.
