On February 25, 2025, the U.S. Department of State announced new visa restrictions targeting Cuban officials involved in labor exploitation programs. The policy applies to both current and former Cuban officials and other foreign officials complicit in these practices.

Congressman Carlos Gimenez expressed his support for the announcement by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. "I applaud President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for combating the murderous dictatorship in Communist Cuba," said Gimenez. He criticized the Castro regime for its human rights violations, including human trafficking and forced labor. "We know Cuban doctors are sold like cattle to the highest bidder and subjected to inhospitable, slave-like conditions — and this new State Dept policy is a step in the right direction to prevent the regime in Havana from profiting from their perverse modern-day slavery scheme."

Gimenez emphasized his commitment to working with Rubio and Trump on policies that isolate the Castro regime while supporting freedom efforts for the Cuban people.

Congressman Carlos Giménez represents Miami-Dade County and Florida Keys. As a Cuban-born member of Congress, he fled Cuba after the Communist takeover. Giménez has served as Fire Chief of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. In Congress, he serves as Vice-Chairman of the Republican Governance Group, Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, on Armed Services Committee, and Select Committee on Chinese Communist Party.
