Today, Congressman Carlos Gimenez introduced a new piece of legislation named the Department of Homeland Security Vehicular Terrorism Prevention and Mitigation Act of 2025. The bill aims to mandate the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to produce a comprehensive report addressing emerging threats related to vehicular terrorism. The DHS will collaborate with its various components to assess these evolving threats, identify high-risk areas, and formulate strategies for mitigation.

Congressman Gimenez highlighted the urgency of this legislation by referencing a recent tragic event. "The horrific ISIS-inspired terrorist attack in New Orleans makes tragically clear how vehicles are weaponized as instruments of terror," he stated. He emphasized the need for DHS to take concrete steps against such threats and share their findings with Congress and the public. Gimenez expressed his commitment to advancing this bill, noting the importance of prioritizing it as a response to the loss of 14 lives on New Year's Day.

Congressman Carlos Giménez serves Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys. He holds the distinction of being the only Cuban-born member of the 119th Congress, having left Cuba following its communist revolution. Before his political career, he was a firefighter paramedic, eventually becoming Fire Chief of Miami and later Mayor of Miami-Dade County. In Congress, he is involved in various roles including Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, serving on both the Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
