Village Of Pinecrest issued the following announcement on Jan. 31.
Councilmember Katie Abbott has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2023 Energy, Environment and Natural Resources (EENR) Federal Advocacy Committee. Abbott was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on sustainability, climate change, community resilience, water infrastructure and more. NLC President Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington announced the appointment.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve on NLC’s Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee,” says Abbott. “In Pinecrest and across South Florida, we are already experiencing the impacts of climate change and sea-level rise. As a progressive town, we have taken numerous steps to help mitigate the impacts of these threats, but we still have a lot of work to do. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves on resiliency and sustainability issues for the benefit of Pinecrest and other coastal communities around the US.”
As a member of NLC’s EENR Committee, Abbott will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns and villages before Congress, with the administration, and at home.
“NLC’s federal advocacy committees are a key tool for gathering insights directly from the communities that our members serve,” said NLC President Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington. “I am excited to have Abbott serve on the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee and look forward to working with her to ensure every city, town and village in this nation has the resources they need to thrive.”
