WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos A. Giménez, Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, the Select Committee on China, and the Armed Services Committee, questioned witnesses in a full Homeland Security Committee hearing to examine the financial cost of the historic humanitarian and national security crisis at the Southwest border. Giménez criticized President Biden and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' open-border policies, stating that they have had a detrimental impact on communities across the nation and have resulted in the misspending of millions of taxpayer dollars.
This hearing marks the fourth phase of the Homeland Security Committee's ongoing oversight investigation into the unprecedented crisis at the southern border and Secretary Mayorkas' alleged dereliction of duty.
Giménez's line of questioning during the hearing can be watched here.
Witnesses present at the hearing included The Honorable Jonathan W. Lines, County Supervisor of District 2 in Yuma County, Arizona, The Honorable Joseph C. Borelli, a member of the New York City Council, and Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, Policy Director of the American Immigration Council.
Congressman Carlos A. Giménez, the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress, was forced to leave his homeland shortly after the Communist takeover of the island. Representing Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, Giménez continues to advocate for strong border security and responsible immigration policies.
