MIAMI, FL- Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-28), representing South Florida and the Florida Keys, raised concerns about the deteriorating situation in Haiti and its potential impact on the local community.
Highlighting the risks posed by political unrest and escalating gang violence in Haiti, Rep. Gimenez warned of the looming threat of a mass migration surge towards South Florida and the Florida Keys. In response to these challenges, he pledged to collaborate closely with various authorities to safeguard the community and advocate for the restoration of stability in Haiti.
Commenting on the Biden Administration's approach towards Haiti, Rep. Gimenez criticized their inaction since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, stressing, "Since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse three years ago, the Biden Administration stood idly by while Haiti descended into chaos."
Expressing his concerns about the potential ramifications for South Florida families, Rep. Gimenez urged for immediate action, stating, "I demand the Biden Administration implement a comprehensive strategy to address the unrest in Haiti and prevent this security crisis from impacting South Florida families."
Congressman Carlos Giménez, the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress, has a background as a career firefighter paramedic and has held notable positions such as Fire Chief of the City of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, the Armed Services Committee, and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
