Rep. María Elvira Salazar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 27th district, shared her views on recent geopolitical developments and congratulated a colleague on his new appointment through a series of tweets.

On December 8, 2024, Salazar commented on the political shift in Syria following the fall of Bashar al Assad. She noted that this development has implications for Venezuela: "With the fall of Syria’s Dictator Bashar al Assad, the Maduro Regime in Venezuela has lost one of its major international supporters." She expressed hope for stability in Syria after years of conflict.

In a subsequent tweet posted shortly after on December 8, 2024, she reiterated her statement in Spanish: "Con la caída del dictador sirio Bashar al Assad, el régimen de Maduro en Venezuela ha perdido a uno de sus principales apoyos internacionales." She emphasized the significance of this event and wished for peace in Syria.

On December 9, 2024, Rep. Salazar extended her congratulations to fellow Floridian Brian Mast for his new role as Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Republican wing. She stated: "Congratulations to my good friend & fellow Floridian @RepBrianMast on being the new Chair of the prestigious @HouseForeignGOP!" Salazar praised Mast as a strong advocate for American values internationally and expressed eagerness to collaborate with him.
