Rep. María Elvira Salazar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida's 27th district, has released a series of tweets addressing issues ranging from political situations abroad to legislative actions within the United States. Salazar, who succeeded Donna Shalala in Congress in 2021, uses her platform to speak out on issues she considers pressing.

On April 7, 2025, Salazar condemned the Cuban government via a tweet, stating, "El régimen autoritario cubano ha convertido a su pueblo en esclavos. ¡Basta ya de explotación!" This comment reflects her ongoing criticism of Cuba's political landscape, which she labels as authoritarian and exploitative.

Later the same day, Salazar announced her introduction of the TAKE IT DOWN Act, H.R. 633, aimed at providing federal protection for individuals like Brooke who have suffered from online exploitation. Her tweet emphasized, "I introduced the TAKE IT DOWN Act (H.R. 633) to provide federal protection for victims like Brooke. Innocent people deserve real safeguards from online exploitation. No more inaction. No more excuses. Exploit a child, and you’ll face jail time—nationwide."

In a follow-up tweet, Salazar reiterated her intent to establish H.R. 633, presenting the information in Spanish to reach a broader audience. She asserted, "Por eso presenté la ley TAKE IT DOWN (HR 633), para brindar protección federal a víctimas como Brooke. Las víctimas inocentes necesitan una protección real contra la explotación en línea. Basta de inacción. Basta de excusas. ¡Si explotas a un niño inocente, enfrentarás cárcel."
