WASHINGTON, D.C. - This afternoon, Monday, October 2, 2023, Congressman Carlos Giménez, the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress, had the honor of presiding over the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Today, I'll be presiding over the U.S. House of Representatives," said Rep. Carlos Giménez. "I arrived in the U.S. as a six year-old — exiled with my family shortly after the Communist takeover of our native homeland, Cuba. Only in America could I ever have this incredible honor."

Congressman Giménez's journey from exile to the esteemed position of presiding over the House Floor reflects the opportunities and possibilities that America offers to those seeking a better life. Having fled his homeland during the Communist takeover, Giménez and his family found refuge in the United States, where they were able to rebuild their lives.

As the only Cuban-born Member of Congress, Giménez brings a unique perspective to his role. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Select Committee on China, advocating for policies that prioritize national security and protect American interests.
