WASHINGTON, D.C. - In a Homeland Security Committee hearing today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-28) questioned witnesses about the threats posed by the Iranian Regime to America's homeland security. The hearing, titled "An Examination of the Iranian Regime's Threat to Homeland Security," was prompted by the recent unprovoked attack on Israel by Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists.
During the hearing, several witnesses provided insights into the risks posed by the Iranian Regime. The Honorable Nathan A. Sales, former Ambassador-at-Large and Coordinator for Counterterrorism, emphasized the importance of addressing Iran's state-sponsored terrorism activities. "The Iranian Regime continues to support and sponsor terrorist organizations that pose a significant threat to homeland security," Sales stated.
Masih Alinejad, a private citizen, shared her personal experiences and shed light on the oppressive nature of the Iranian regime. "As someone who has lived under the Iranian regime's rule, I can attest to the dangers it poses not only to its own citizens but also to the international community," Alinejad remarked.
Robert Greenway, Director of the Center for National Defense at The Heritage Foundation, highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach to address Iran's threats. He said, "Iran's pursuit of nuclear capabilities and its support for terrorist organizations directly undermine America's homeland security. We must take decisive action to counter these threats."
Thomas S. Warrick, a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, emphasized the importance of international cooperation to tackle the Iranian Regime's activities. "We must work closely with our allies to disrupt and dismantle Iran's networks that pose a threat to our homeland security," Warrick stated.
Congressman Gimenez, who serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, the Select Committee on China, and the Armed Services Committee, expressed his concerns about the Iranian Regime's actions. "As someone who fled my homeland due to the Communist takeover, I am acutely aware of the dangers posed by authoritarian regimes. It is crucial that we remain vigilant and address the threats posed by the Iranian Regime to protect our homeland," Gimenez asserted.
The hearing provided a platform for experts and witnesses to shed light on the threats posed by the Iranian Regime to America's homeland security. As tensions continue to rise, it is imperative for policymakers to take decisive action to protect the nation and its interests.
