WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-28) has voted for Louisiana Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04) to become the next Speaker of the House. In a statement, Rep. Gimenez expressed his support for Johnson and highlighted their shared background in firefighting.

"It’s been 22 days since the Gang of 8 joined with all the Democrats in the House to remove our duly elected Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Congressman Carlos Giménez is the only career firefighter paramedic and Cuban-born member of the 118th Congress. Having fled his homeland shortly after the Communist takeover of the island, Gimenez represents Miami-Dade County and the beautiful Florida Keys. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Select Committee on China.
