María Elvira Salazar calls for secure borders after migrant incidents

Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district, recently shared a series of tweets addressing immigration and border security issues. Salazar, who has been serving in Congress since 2021, highlighted incidents involving Chinese migrants in her district.

On January 29, 2025, Rep. Salazar tweeted about an incident where the Coral Gables Police Department stopped vans full of Chinese migrants on Old Cutler Road for the second time that month. She emphasized the need for a secure border and clearly enforced laws to prevent smugglers and human traffickers from profiting under the current administration. "For the 2nd time this month, @CoralGablesPD stopped vans full of Chinese migrants on Old Cutler Road! This is why we need a secure border & clearly enforced laws. Smugglers & human traffickers are profiting bc under Biden they got away with it!"

Later that day, at 19:23 UTC, Salazar responded to Laura Loomer regarding these events by clarifying the legal status of the migrants involved. She stated that they were legal migrants who followed proper procedures and questioned whether Loomer would correct her video or if she should do it herself."Hey @LauraLoomer, you’re wrong! These folks aren’t here illegally… they are LEGAL migrants. They followed the law. Want to correct your video or should I?"

In another tweet posted at 19:45 UTC on January 29, Salazar reiterated her concerns in Spanish about the recent stops made by Coral Gables police involving Chinese migrants on Old Cutler Road."Por segunda vez, la Policía de Coral Gables detuvo camionetas con inmigrantes chinos en Old Cutler Road. Por eso necesitamos una frontera segura. Los traficantes de personas se están beneficiando porque con Biden se salieron con la suya."
