City Of Homestead issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.

The City of Homestead will honor the legacy and achievements of the late Everett Eddison Sewer on Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at 10 am with a ceremony co-designating SW 187th Court as “Everett Sewer Court.”  The street runs between the PAL Gym, located at 600 SW 14th Ave, Homestead, FL 33030, and West Homestead K-8 Center.  It will feature new signage announcing the dedication.  The ceremony will include remarks from both City of Homestead and Miami-Dade County elected officials and Mr. Sewer’s colleagues from West Homestead K-8 Center.

Mr. Everett Sewer was born September 13, 1962, on the island St John, US Virgin Islands, and upon graduation from high school, he attended Hampton University in 1980 where he later received a Bachelor in Education in 1984. Having a passion for teaching and working with children, Mr. Everett Sewer spent thirty-five of his thirty-six years as an educator at West Homestead K-8. Mr. Sewer is well known for his dedication to the 5000 Role Models program, becoming a mentor and a safe place for the youth in the community.

The co-designation of SW 187th Court as Everett Sewer Court was made possible by the unanimous approval of resolutions by the City of Homestead City Council and the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners.
